Let's Read: Traveller, 1977 Edition, Characters & Combat, page 35

Page 35, and we’re motoring along. First up in the guns section is the body pistol. Basically a porcelain or plastic gun to avoid metal detectors, I suppose. It hold six bullets, and it’s semi-automatic. So, your basic police special. It’s light, and expensive (500 Credits).

The automatic pistol is next. This one can shoot up to 15 shots, one at a time, and it’s got preloaded magazines as well. Oh, and its ammo is interchangeable with that of a submachine gun in a pinch. Nice. All that for a mere 200 Credits.

Then we have the old revolver, the classic, reliable way to relieve someone’s burden of life at range. Interestingly, this version doesn’t include speed-loaders, but it still only takes one combat round to reload all six shots. The bullets aren’t interchangeable with the automatic pistol despite being of the same caliber. Well, you don’t really need both of them, anyway.

Carbines are mini-rifles, but not shotguns. 10-round magazines are used, and these little suckers move fast, almost twice as fast as the automatic pistol ammo. They only weigh 3 kg, and they cost 200 Credits, same as the auto-pistol.

Finally, we have the rifle, Jamie’s favorite toy. It has telescopic sight and bayonet attachment options, and the bullets are heavier and bigger than carbine ones. Rifles are highly accurate (especially in the hands of an ex-Army sniper). And…he can barely carry them now, since they are 4 kg unloaded; one magazine is another ½ kg. That and a bayonet means he’s over his normal weight limit already. Well, that sucks. At least it doesn’t cost much, only 200 Credits as well.

And that gets us started on the next page, which will continue with more shooting things.
